THE RAMAYANA BALLET PERFORMANCE
The Ramayana Ballet is a dramatic, dialogue-free Javanese dance performance based on the Indian Hindu epic, Ramayana. The performance is held in Indonesia, often at the Prambanan Temple complex, and combines classical Javanese dance, traditional music, and elaborate costumes to tell the story of Prince Rama's quest to rescue his wife, Sita. The performance features hundreds of dancers and musicians, and is adapted to reflect local cultural traditions.
This performance follows the classic Ramayana story: Prince Rama wins Sita's heart in an archery contest, but she is then kidnapped by Ravana. With the help of the monkey god Hanuman and an army of monkeys, Rama battles Ravana to rescue his wife. The story ends with Sita proving her purity by walking through fire, after which she is reunited with Rama.
